Comparing this new look Statement of Values (in Dhivehi) to the originally proposed values, I guess we have taken off some key things. I understand this new version was discussed at the strategic level and is almost finalized.

My personal view is that we incorporate ETHICS, VICTIMS and PEOPLE (which refers to MPS personnel) into this as they are critical for an emerging democratic police organization. Other than that, I find the rest fitting into our context.

Here I reiterate the elements (from the original version) which I have mentioned above that needs to be incorporated.

Ethics
Accept the need to ensure the highest of professional standards and ethical conduct by our personnel.

People
Value and develop our people, our most important asset.

Victims
Treat victims of crime compassionately and constructively while providing reassuring
assistance.

Best regards and appreciate the efforts made to make MPS a better organization

This idea is very interesting, and I hope this does not tell just one side of the story!

It would be good to add to the 'service' value some kind of recognition of service to community. And 'Ethics'(or perhaps integrity) is a more important value than 'rivethi namoona' which actually could be covered by an ethics value. Also the concept of 'Sharafu' as a core value comes more from the military ideology than a policing value = Yoonus =

Well said Yoonus, PRIDE/HONOR does not fit into the police context.

Values that are in the original post:
SERVICE
INTEGRITY/HONESTY
PRIDE/HONOR
EQUALITY
ACCOUNTABILITY
EXEMPLARY CONDUCT

I agree that certain elements are missing. But, I felt rather important to have something in place rather than having nothing we will be go on with something. So, I discussed our Statement of Values with some individuals from Police & have finalized this version with their comments. I plan to have all necessary MPS Policies done (atlast the first draft) by September 01, 2008.

Creating this blog is a fantastic idea; if done professionally and updated regularly.

Why not post the articles in English? Its that the blogger template is in English, articles are in 'dhivehi' and obviously comments would be in English. It doesn't go well, and because of the format, its kinda difficult to read. Just the way I see it, maybe everyone else likes it. :)

Cheers

I did get your Point Athif. Thank you for that comment. I tried to change the language to Dhivehi, but couldn't do that. Will appreciate anyone who can assist me in changing the language to Dhivehi.
Athif, most of these concepts are done in Dhivehi (for now). That's the reason for posting those in Dhivehi. Eventually we will translate all these Codes to English.
